Thursday, May 28, 2020 7:00 am – 8:30 am Lompoc Club, 1025 W. Ocean Avenue, Lompoc, CA 93436 The community breakfast is free to attend.
The Lompoc Community Breakfast is to help raise funds for the Math Intervention Program.
In the past few years, through our power hour (homework help sessions), we noticed that more than 50% of our 4th-6th grade students struggled daily to understand and complete their math homework. We realized that math intervention was a huge need for our students and wanted to support them to ensure they were ready by the time they transitioned to middle school.
In 2018, we created a unique math intervention program that had a chess component. The program ran through the school year, and in our first session, we had 11 members who enrolled in the program with strong parental support. We received great feedback from our members & their newfound excitement for math.
The sole purpose of the math intervention program is to strengthen conceptual and procedural knowledge to close the existing gap so that students can move smoothly to make connections with other mathematics. The long-term goal of the math intervention program is to help students gain independent strategies and take responsibility for their learning.
Due to a lack of funding, we, unfortunately, had to terminate the program in December 2019. We hope that through funds raised at The Lompoc Community Breakfast, we will be able to relaunch this much-needed program to benefit the academic success of our members.
